Petal Chandelier

One of my favorite pieces in the Getty Villa museum is a gold laurel wreath from the 2nd century B.C. The goldsmith created hammered gold leaves with imperfect and organic intertwining vines. Like a wreath, originally given as an award for Olympic athletes, this chandelier regiments organic shapes into the suggestion of a crown. When you are underneath it, the contours reveal themselves, and when you walk past it, the shapes dance. There’s no bad seat in the house.
